Critical Areas to Focus on for Home Decorating

Home interior decorating is an art form, as well as an exercise in creating a functional and well maintained home. With interior decorating it is possible to restyle a home and breathe new life into its walls. Value can be added to a home by replacing wallpaper, re-painting, and investing in new hardware. Through the use of color, shape, and style, a home can become stunning and something to brag about. With a little bit of planning, a room can be overhauled on a budget by remembering a few home interior decorating tips.

Walls

It is easier to change a room by starting with the walls first. Paint is relatively inexpensive, and repainting the walls of a room is a cost effective way to create an extreme difference in the appearance of a room. Paint is easier to apply before taking any other steps in the interior decorating process. Painting after furniture has been moved in or after new floors are installed is very challenging, and is an unnecessary hassle. By starting with the walls first later complications are avoided.

Floor and Carpeting

Tearing out old carpet and replacing it with new carpet is one part of the interior of a home that can create a drastically changed atmosphere. A low cost interior decorating idea is to utilize closeout prices on carpeting or flooring. When a manufacturer goes out of business or discontinues a line of product, great discounts and sales on material can be found. A person redecorating their home may be able to find carpet which has almost sold out and only limited, small quantities remain. This carpet may not cover a large room, but it would do for small spaces, and leftovers are sold at cut rate prices.

Furniture

Furniture can be resurfaced and given a new look. Re-facing furniture saves money, and new colors can be introduced with only a small amount of time and paint. The inclusion of curtains, framed pictures, and rugs are important elements of a beautiful home interior. Furniture can be arranged to best utilize the space of a room, and to create an attractive setting. Rugs can become points of interest, and picture frames of loved ones can balance out the look of a wall.

Home interior decorating is easy when homeowners combine color, furniture, and the physical structure of their home in a way that meshes visually and allows for a comfortable environment.

Professional Interior Design Consultants Can Save You Time, Money, And Effort

A fresh application of paint does wonders for a room. It can be a subtle face-lift by using the same or similar color to refresh the room or it can dramatically change the entire look and feel of the space. In a way, your walls are the largest “furnishings” in the room. They define the space and provide the backdrop to everything else in the room and on the walls. When the wall colors harmonize with the other elements in the room – window treatments, floor coverings, furnishings, and accessories – you will have a room that is inviting and comfortable, regardless of the chosen style.

It’s hard for most Chicagoans to visualize what their rooms will look like just from small color samples. Even a shade darker or lighter can make a remarkable difference in the results. The natural and artificial lighting in a room also makes a big difference on how a paint color will appear in a space. Choosing the wrong wall color certainly isn’t the most costly Chicago interior design error since it is usually easily recovered. That said, painting isn’t cost free and it is disruptive. When it’s done badly due to lack of proper wall preparation, an inadequate number of coats, or just done in a sloppy manner, it’s a waste of money. You will never be happy with the results.

Many people think that interior painting is easy and something that anyone can do. Many of those same people change their minds when they are faced with the task. They discover that it takes a lot more time and work to prep, prime, and paint than they thought and it’s not as easy as the home shows on TV make it look. Like most home improvement tasks, experienced professional painters in Chicago will do a superior job that looks better and lasts longer. Be careful in the painters you choose, though. Using a cut-rate service usually gets you a cut-rate job that may end up costing you more in the long run.

Combining professional painting with the services and recommendations of an interior designer who will help you choose that perfect color will ensure a result that you are delighted with. A Chicago interior design service can help you create a fantastic space with what you have or help you choose the right furnishings to get the look that reflects your personality and lifestyle. When you factor in the costs of the “hit or miss” amateur approach to decorating and expensive mistakes that almost inevitably result, the cost of assistance from an interior designer will typically save you money. It’s the best and fastest way to get you into that room you envision but don’t know the tricks to make a reality.

Decorating Office Cubicles Tastefully

If you are an office worker, chances are your workspace consists of a cubicle with cubicle furniture. Many companies are furnished with it because of its affordability, variety of designs, configurability and ease of installation. Cubicle furniture not only looks good, but is efficient as well, especially with the addition of trays, shelves, file organizers and other accessories.

Working in a cubicle for 40 hours a week or so, you are probably equally concerned with making your space comfortable. Being able to personalize it according to your tastes and needs is important to you. But before you start, here are some things to keep in mind when decorating office cubicles.

Make sure that your decorations are in keeping with the culture in your office. Do you work in a conservative environment such as a law office, or do you work in advertising, where offices are more open and creative in nature? Also, if you use your cubicle for receiving guests and clients, it is best to decorate conservatively to project a more professional image.

Our cubicle can still be a reflection of your personality, even with conservative decorations. Things that are important to you, as well as your hobbies and interests can be seen in the items you choose to display. These include family pictures, themed decor and plants.

You can also choose decorations for their ability to inspire and motivate. These include posters with appropriate messages and prints. Clocks, calendars and bulletin boards placed on your desk or hung on your cubicle wall also serve this purpose.

You can make people visiting your cubicle more welcome with your decorations. You can display unique, humorous and thought-provoking items to serve as icebreakers. Unconventional desktop accessories, unusual travel souvenirs or something as simple as a jar of candy can jumpstart conversations and make transition to business matters go more smoothly.

There are many colorful, fun and attractive items available in the market that can be used as cubicle decorations. However, you should only get the ones that wont distract you from your work. Desk toys and gadgets in particular can have a negative impact on your productivity if these make you spend more time tinkering with them than doing your job.

Multi-cultural and multi-racial work environments are common nowadays. With this in mind, you should take care that your decorations do not offend your co-workers and other people. Do not use items that might be interpreted as profane or disrespectful of others religious beliefs, gender, political views and race.

Insights Into Interior Design Designing In Style. Part I Foundations

Interior design has always been impacted by fashion trends – both historically and in the modern day. In this article series, “Designing in Style,” I explore the meaning of style for interior designers. I draw on my experience working alongside many of London’s best-known interior design teams. This first article in my series outlines some of the basic concepts.

One of the first things to note is that we change our interiors much less frequently than we change our clothing. As a result, it is important for the professional interior designer to not design too “fashionable” a room for fear that it might seem completely outdated next year. Certainly it is possible to keep up with furniture fashions – many of which can be seen in London’s monthly interior design magazines – but the professional interior designer will generally prefer to focus on furniture fashions that can be easily changed. Examples include cushions, table decorations, rugs and bed linens.

London Interior Design trends can be very changeable. For example, in recent decades London saw a movement back towards the traditional. The Georgian-style Adam fireplace has seen a major revival, as have other old-fashioned features. Mouldings are very much in style today, and interior designers will commonly include them – whether in plaster or in wood.

Interestingly, the return of the dado rail (even in some of the smaller London residences) has also seen a re-envisioning of the two-tone wall colour scheme. In keeping with tradition, London interior design professionals will often choose a heavier, darker colour below the dado rail and a lighter colour above.

Fabric coordination is very much in vogue. With the increased availability of bespoke fabric centres in and around London, interior designers will often nowadays choose fabrics that are manufactured to match papers, borders, carpets, ceramics and even porcelain.

Finally, style should always be understood in the context of the available interior design space. No two rooms are identical, and every room has both strong points and weak points. The most experienced interior designers will choose styles that can showcase a room’s strengths while hiding its weaknesses. Examples of weaknesses in a room might include some structural re-engineering made by a previous owner, or perhaps an awkward architectural design fault that cannot be remedied today.

In the next article in this series on how interior designers “design in style,” I will introduce you to two of London’s most timeless design styles – Georg
